Acting Co-President Ed called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Donna.
Brendan gave an invocation.
Donna sang "O, Canada" but we only knew a few words, so Kassie sang "Lucky Duck."
Visiting Rotarians: Bob Reeves
Guests of Rotarians: Hans Bruhner, Kassie
Correspondence: A thank you card from one of our scholarship recipients and a request for funds from the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods.
Announcements: Don't forget we will be at the Guerneville School Garden next week (the end of Carrier Lane in Guerneville). There will be a board meeting beforehand at 4:30 p.m.
The Volker Strifler Band will be at the Rockin' the River concert on the plaza this Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Happy Bucks: None
Fines: Herman J. took over at this point to lighten our wallets. Chuck was fined $9 ($5 for being late, $2 for an off hand remark about Mexico when compared to Canada, and another $2 for general mouthing off!) Brendan was fined $10 for offending Herman J.'s delicate sensibilities with a YouTube video. Daniela was fined $2 for working the photo booth at a wedding in Sonoma over the weekend. Herman G. was fined $10 for muttering that his dad was running the meeting like a dictator! Donna used her past-president powers to fine Herman J. $13 for knowing how many miles were in a half-marathon. Mike Nicholls was fined $2 for "having both" (no comment), and a further $5 for enjoying himself at the Mike McGuire election kick-off event. Donna was fined $20 for her long vacation on Prince Edward Island and Boston, and another $2 for talking out of turn at Herman J. Ed was fined $2 for mouthing off and another $2 for being out of order. Lori will be running a half-marathon through Disneyland with Hans, so she was preemptively fined $5 (good luck!) Finally, even our visiting Rotarian Bob Reeves could not escape Herman J. He was fined $10 for spearing a bit of pork from the buffet and walking it back to his plate without proper drip-prevention!
Raffle: Andy drew the winning ticket AGAIN, but could only come up with a 5 of spades (?).
Program: No speaker tonight. So Herman engaged us in discussion. We spoke about comments made regarding the Andy Lopez case toward the Sheriff. Many gave their two cents regarding the circumstances of the shooting and how to prevent such things from happening again.
Herman then turned the discussion to the child immigration crisis emanating from Central America. As Herman's father was from El Salvador, he's understandably sympathetic. A few others commented, then time ran out. Chuck was just about to correct Herman J. on a point of parliamentary order when Herman J. quickly adjourned the meeting with a vigorous bell ringing!
